Immerse yourself in a dynamic community of writers and teachers of writing. In this course we will participate in writers' workshops to develop our own writing in both creative and expository genres as we gain practical knowledge and skills to cultivate powerful literacies in secondary English classrooms. Through a variety of writing projects (including writing with digital tools) as well as reflecting on our own composing processes, we will explore innovative practices for helping all young scholars produce writing that is powerfully expressive and transformative. Course activities include writing in multiple genres (in alignment with the Common Core State Standards), considering learning strategies for multilingual and translingual writers, and practicing effective and engaging ways to teach and assess writing in culturally and linguistically diverse schools..
